The Special Collections Professional serves as a primary Learning Resources liaison for the discipline college-wide and on applicable campus and college committees.

  • Collaborates with assigned academic department(s) in order to identify accreditation and certification requirements to support the curricular and research needs of students
  • Evaluates the specialized college-wide collection to ensure that it is current and supports the program(s) accreditation standards and provides reports to management
  • Markets specialized resources and information literacy instruction to the academic discipline(s) (both students and faculty)
  • Pepares the annual budget, makes recommendations for collections budget for each subject area assigned, completes annual inventories and reports, and seeks external funding; such as, grant funds
  • Oversees purchases made in support of a subject category or discipline(s) at the College and processes all orders (print and non-print) college-wide
  • Develops teaching strategies, instructional materials, and assignments to support information literacy in a specialized discipline(s)
  • Keeps abreast of ever-changing technology and/or service delivery platforms such as, Ask a Librarian, LibGuides, tutorial creation, etc
  • Coordinates the ordering of materials with the discipline faculty including e-resources, books and periodicals
  • Works with the department chairpersons and accrediting agencies to assure that required program resources are accessible
  • Supports students in online and hybrid courses for the specialized discipline(s)
  • Works with computer courtyard and academic labs to connect services with academic department(s)
  • Provides reference, bibliographic and research methodology services
  • Manages and supervises collection development and other Learning Resources personnel as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Skills / Requirements

  • Masters degree in Library & Information Science and a second subject Bachelors degree or Masters degree in the Sciences, Engineering, Criminal Justice, English/Communication, Health Related field (i.e., Nursing or Allied Health), Business, STEM-related field, Humanities or related field, and three (3) years working in an academic setting with extensive experience in reference, bibliographic and research methodology services
  • All degrees must be from regionally accredited institution
  • Expertise in social networking, online library resources, Microsoft Office and other applicable discipline computer applications
  • Ability to initiate and incorporate creative ideas and technology
  • Ability to recognize and respond to student needs in developing
  • Capability to function within a team environment
  • Knowledgeable about the role of libraries in higher education
  • Working knowledge in providing reference/information services in academic or public libraries
  • Possess a strong public service philosophy
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multicultural enviroment with students and staff
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends assigments
