The Part-Time Microbiology Laboratory Technician performs laboratory set-up and support duties for the Microbiology Program.
Unpacks shipments of electronic equipment, culture media, chemicals and plastic disposables
Sets-up and maintain microbiology laboratories with equipment, instruments, chemicals, disposables and glassware
Installs and checks all pieces of electronic equipment and laboratory supplies
Organizes storage and create inventory of culture media, strains, chemicals, plastics, disposables and electronic equipment as well as maintain files of documentation of equipment (equipment manuals, guides etc)
Maintains official College written inventory of equipment and supplies and makes recommendations to purchase new and replacement supplies
Researches, tests and develops new curriculum components for the enhancement of the Microbiology Laboratory programs
Creates and maintains Microbiology laboratory with lists of equipment, chemicals, solutions and protocols based on course descriptions and needs
Organizes and distributes all equipment, microbial strains, culture materials and chemicals for every laboratory class
Assists with coordination and implementation of laboratory experiments for both day and evening Microbiology lab courses
Available to help students with laboratory exercises
Performs other duties as assigned
Skills / Requirements
Bachelors degree in natural science, related field or discipline from a regionally accredited institution
Experience establishing, maintaining or set-up of microbial culture media and supplies in the Microbiology Laboratory
Knowledge of Microbiology-related equipment & supplies and willingness to learn and implement other techniques and equipment
Knowledge of the General Microbiology laboratory-related techniques
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
