The Instructional Developer / Web Designer provides technical, web, and administrative support to the following District offices/Website functions: Office of Academic Programs (OAP), Academic Affairs, School and College Relations/Articulation, International Education, Center for Latin American and Caribbean Initiatives (CLASI), Community College Initiative Program (CCIP), Study Abroad, Diplomat in Residence (DIR), Confucius Institute (CI), Learning Outcomes, High School Opportunities, Faculty Initiatives, College Information Center, Workforce Education, Business Affairs Fee Audit website, Accreditation, Acceleration Options, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Grid Website, Enrollment Management, and various college-wide committees websites (e.g., Gordon Rule, College Academic & Student Support Council CASSC, College Admissions and Registration Procedures Committee CARPC, Research and Testing).

  • Maintains information in the State Course Numbering System (SCNS for Miami Dade College and in the MDC student information database and curriculum management systems, provides/posts MDC Information utilized by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE)
  • Maintains the on-line MDC catalog
  • Supports, designs, and maintains web sites for disclosure, sharing and publication of information
  • Provides assistance to the District Office of Academic Programs in the support, troubleshooting, development and maintenance of databases, websites, and curriculum management systems (i.e. CurricUNET), processes, and procedures
  • Creates and maintains repositories of information to provide students and personnel with information
  • Develops, utilizes, and maintains digital imaging for documents, including web and SharePoint sites
  • Compiles and extrapolates data from the MDC mainframe database system and determines the sequence of processes into the mainframe for use in the MDC Degree Audits in addition to the Florida Virtual Campus (formally FACTS.org) system
  • Reviews new and revised course/program information for input into the SCNS for reporting purposes
  • Writes and/or edits booklets, brochures, documents on websites, PowerPoint presentations and other informational materials
  • Troubleshoots computer hardware and systems software problems to support District and OAP processes
  • Establishes and maintains documentation for implemented systems in accordance with appropriate procedural standards in order to prepare, maintain and update systems documentation using existing skeleton programs
  • Provides MDC faculty and staff with accurate information relating to all aspects of administrative operations based on College policies and procedures
  • Provides training, course development and facilitation for the curriculum management system
  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Skills / Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in education or technical or related field and five (5) years work experience in an academic setting or Masters Degree and one (1) year of related work experience
  • All educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge of programming languages, current operating systems (i.e., Windows Operating Systems), and relevant software applications (i.e., Microsoft Office)
  • Knowledge and understanding of internet operations and functionality, and of a wide range of internet programming and website design tools
  • Knowledge and understanding of current authoring languages, editing and authoring tools, and related technologies
  • Working knowledge of electronic technologies and tools e.g., mobile/wireless devices, laptops, Label Maker, Digital Imaging, Scan Function, and Data Burn Function
  • Skill in computer graphics and layout
  • Strategic planning and project management skills
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials and to create and analyze reports
  • Ability to effectively manage time and schedules and work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to evaluate new and evolving website technologies
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments
