This Faculty member teaches Sign Language and Interpretation courses.

  • Teaches lecture and laboratory sections
  • Evaluates students and performs career and academic advising
  • Plans and organizes instructional materials to meet course objectives
  • Participates in curriculum development and revision that stress innovation and multi-cultural emphasis
  • Participates in departmental recruiting and retention activities
  • Participates in a variety of departmental, campus and college-wide programs, activities and committees
  • Prepares and submits student information to Department Chairperson
  • Teaches day, evening and weekend classes as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Skills / Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Interpreter Education or Deaf Education or related field; or a Master's Degree and 18 graduate semester hours in American Sign Language or Interpreter Education or related field
  • All educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • FRID Quality Assurance 3 with intention to take R.I.D. Certification
  • R.I.D. Certification preferred - current NIC or previous testing - C.I. (Certificate of Interpretation) & C.T. (Certificate of Transliteration)
  • Ability to function well in a technological environment and willing to use technological tools in instruction
  • Demonstrated effective use of active learning techniques
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to oversee internships
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments

    Important Notes



  • Two (2) years experience in sign language interpreting
  • College level teaching experience in sign language or deaf studies related field
  • History / background of interactions with the local deaf community
