The Assistant Vice Provost, Architectural Planning and Design establishes, oversees and directs the implementation of college-wide architectural planning and design standards for all new construction, remodeling, and renovation.

  • Establishes and implements college wide architectural exterior and interior design criteria
  • Oversees the work of selected architectural firms throughout the planning and design phases of a projects development process to ensure compliance with College architectural standards
  • Assesses impact on project schedules and budgets
  • Works closely with the Campus planners and administrators to develop educational specifications for all new major construction and remodeling projects consistent with the college architectural standards and design criteria
  • Provides architectural planning and design expertise in support of energy and environmental sustainability, life safety and accessibility, and total cost of building operation and maintenance
  • Reviews and interprets plans and specifications and provides technical expertise during design and construction to assist Facilities project management in the resolution of contract issues
  • Evaluates the resolution of design conflicts encountered during design development and construction phases of a project to include conflicts with other building infrastructure components; such as, structural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing issues
  • Analyzes construction plans containing errors or omissions and assesses proposed remedial measures to ensure that projects maintain target timelines and remain within budget
  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Skills / Requirements

  • Master's degree in Architecture and six (6) years of related experience; or a Bachelor's degree in architecture and ten (10) years of related experience
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Five (5) years of professional architectural design experience that includes management and supervisory experience in project planning, conceptual design, design development, construction documents, and construction management
  • Licensed as a Florida Registered Architect. If licensed in another state, licensing in the State of Florida must be obtained within two (2) years of the start date of employment
  • LEED AP certification or ability to obtain certification within two (2) years of the start date of employment
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers license
  • Proven working knowledge in the interpretation and technical application of the Florida Administrative Code, Florida Building Code, and the Department of Education Office of Educational Facilities Regulations and Guidelines
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and work well under limited time constraints and within allotted budget
  • Knowledge of LEED and/or Green Building standards
  • Skill in the development and use of scheduling, workflow and critical path analysis, Value Engineering and life-cycle cost analysis
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public; ability to write Requests for Qualifications and Proposals (RFQ & RFP)
  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical journals, procedures and governmental regulations; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to negotiate and manage contractual agreements; ability to provide a personal vehicle to be available when necessary
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
