The Accounts Specialist Senior for Central Accounting is responsible for providing analytical and clerical support to the accounting functions of the College.

  • Answers phone calls
  • Reconciles financial reports
  • Prepares journal entries
  • Signs, seals, and secures vendor, student and payroll checks issued by the College
  • Works closely with the Accounts Payable function as it relates to the review and maintenance of payment-related supporting documentation
  • Distributes vendor, student and payroll checks and coordinates special mailing requests, as necessary
  • Performs a variety of on demand accounting analyses and reports
  • Works in conjunction with Property Management in the recording of payment information for tangible personal property subsidiary records and the monthly reconciliation to the general ledger
  • Assists Property Management with the removal of tangible personal property from subsidiary records by reviewing and preparing the necessary documents for approval by the Board of Trustees
  • Provides support for all customer service issues as it relates to the basic accounting function of the College
  • Participates in testing as it relates to the general ledger for financial software upgrade implementation
  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Skills / Requirements

  • Associates degree and four (4) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Professional experience in major computerized financial systems, personal computers, and fiscal software applications
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Colleges organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database software applications and office equipment (i.e. photocopier, printer, fax machine, calculator)
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures
  • Possess effective interpersonal skills that enable sound decision making on the distribution of duties and responsibilities as it relates to job related functions
  • Ability to think, reason and make sound judgments on how duties and responsibilities are completed in accordance with college standards and guidelines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to make arithmetical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
